How well do you know yourself?
- Do you know who you are?
- Do you know who you want to be?
- Do you know why you make the decisions you make?
Have you ever asked yourself these questions?
Before you can change who you are or change where you are going you need to understand why you think the way you do. I wrote about this in our book, Your Invincible Power, in chapter 3 “if you do the same thing all the time why do you expect different results?” I write about how I had to understand how I thought before I could change the way I thought.
Many of us want change but we do not really know ourselves or we do not want to know ourselves. So we choose to try to change everything around us without changing us. It is funny when you step back and look at it. Until I stopped and looked at me and started to break down my decision process I was limiting my potential for growth.
I wrote in chapter 3, doing the same thing all the time will leave you in the same place year after year and you will watch all those around you move on to new jobs, better houses, nicer cars all while you grow more frustrated with your life. I was there I watched everyone take chances and leave for better opportunities all the while I stayed in the same job, comfortably wondering why I wasn’t moving forward.
What I had to do is ask the question, what is stopping me from reaching my goals?
I wrote in chapter 3, the answer was me, or more precisely, my mind. The way I think, how I looked at things, how I react to things, what I expected out of life, these are the factors that control my thought process.
This is how you begin to know yourself. This is how you begin to break down the barriers that are stopping you from reaching your goal. You have to be honest with yourself. Change is growth and growth cannot be achieved if you don’t understand and change how you think.
I will leave you with this from Chapter 3, be a student of life. Never stop learning. Be a sponge. Soak up the knowledge wherever you come across it. Learn how to use it to improve your life. Believe that you can do anything you focus on.
