Giveaways. Why They Should Be a Big Part of Your Book Marketing Plan

Giveaways and book marketing go hand in hand for a reason. They work.

Drama giveaways I know you wannaBut finding the right mix is a tricky endeavor. It is one that I have been experimenting with and have had some large difficulties and some big success.

When we ran giveaways for our first book, Your Invincible Power: Open the door to Unlimited Wealth, Health and Joy, on Goodreads, we gave out 15 copies and were looking for reviews in return. But we didn’t get many reviews. It cost a lot of money to ship 15 books and not get much feedback so we didn’t run anymore giveaways for that book.

In the spring of 2015 we decided to expand some of our articles into ebooks. We are all ambitious

We also decided to do some press releases for the books. One of the people we were working with suggested that we do some giveaways on Goodreads to promote the new books, but we couldn’t because the books were only available in ebook format, so I started looking at other ways to run giveaways.

I found a site that allows you to run free giveaways for any product or service. The site is Rafflecopter. I signed up and got started.

The first time I ran one I received zero entries. The second one I ran I received zero entries.

The free option wasn’t working for me so I decided to upgrade my account to the paid feature and ran another giveaway. Again I received zero entries. I knew I wasn’t doing something right but I had no idea what I was doing wrong so I decided to close the account and search for a way to run giveaways on Goodreads using ebook format.

As I researched it I found a site called Lulu.com. You could publish your ebook in paperback format on the site. This was the answer to my problem. The first time I went on the site I ended up publishing our Mental Hurdles book in paperback. It took me about 2hrs start to finish. Support independent publishing: Buy this book on Lulu.

Now I could run giveaways on Goodreads. I was so happy and grateful. (There may have been beer involved in the celebration!)

Now the main reasonMental Limits Just what I review you want to run giveaways is not to generate reviews for your book. The truth is, most people aren’t going to bother writing a review, so your giveaways are for the purpose of book marketing. You want to gain exposure. You want people to add the book to their list of books to read and you want your book to be in front of them many times.

This is the purpose of giving your book away for free.

Also, you need to know that the biggest amount of entries come at the beginning and end of your giveaways, the first and last day. So what you want to do is giveaway less copies but run more giveaways. This was our strategy. We published 4 new books in the summer in both paperback and ebook format. We decided to give 2 copies per contest and run 2 giveaways for each book, at 3-4 week durations, our book marketing plan is for 8 months. Now that’s a lot of exposure.

The beauty of running Goodreads giveaways is that they promote it for you and they pick the winner. All you have to do is ship the book to the winner right away. That’s it. Simple and easy to do.

We also promote it on our Twitter page and because it is a trusted contest we get a lot of entries. Our first one was over 800 entries and we continue to see 800 plus entries per giveaway.

This is why giveaways need to be a big part of your book marketing plan.

Money world within It is a great way to draw attention to a great book. It gives you something to tweet about and people will retweet your giveaways. The key is to know what you are trying to accomplish with the book marketing and then doing it over and over again.

Book marketing is not a one time big hit thing. It is something you need to do over and over again so you need to be budget savvy if you want to last long enough to generate sales. Giveaways are great low cost ways to do this.

So let the giveaways begin!!!
