Ego, an Enemy to us All. These are extremely exciting times. Our human experiences are showing us the way. Life is calling us to wake up—be in the moment, and enjoy the fruits of life.
Regardless, it isn’t easy to always be conscious in the moment because the ego constantly places us at a disadvantage. For thousands of years ancient traditions have been telling us about this assailant that is within us. Buddhism translates it as misery, Hinduism sees it as a collective state of mental illness, Christian religion have called it sin. Charles Haanel calls it the enemy.
We are more familiar today with the name the Ego. Nonetheless, we associate this entity in a person that is adsorbed in self-importance, and conceited, sometimes to the point of being intolerable to others. But it is much more than that because what we now know about the ego is the many ways this shrewd force can pull each one of us under its spell, no one is an exception to this. The ego is like a cunning fox, it can trick you, fool you, baffle and confuse you and outwit you easily by its cunning ingenuity.
The ego stops at nothing. Wars around the world, throughout history have been motivated through the madness of power. It has grown over the centuries because it had been controlled previously by ownership of the collective.
In other words, the poorer people were deemed powerless and so the ego had seem to be suppressed to a point, or so we thought. Today what we see is the ego dominating many peoples lives. It shows itself in staggering violent eruption around the world. It doesn’t matter what beliefs you have or what religion you belong to, because the ego is always there ready to entice you to go where you shouldn’t go, and do what you shouldn’t do.
“The ego wants to want more than it wants to have.” Eckhart Tolle
I call the ego our hidden virus, because this hidden virus accumulates. It collects negative thoughts and dishes them out to you. When we’re not careful it can saturate the mind with these negative thoughts. When this happens it has taken control over you and then your thoughts cannot and will not move out of the negative field until you take your control back. This happens because the ego has been allowed to be on auto pilot. You haven’t been aware of it and so it has run the show, so to speak. This is how powerful the ego is and it is in all of us. No one is born without ego.
The question is how powerful is yours?
If you examine your life does it feel that it’s constantly challenging you and giving you many things to complain about. How do you feel when you’re complaining? Does it make you feel contented to a certain extent? If you can be really honest with yourself and understand that there is some sort of stimulation from these complaints that you make, then the ego is in control. The ego loves to find things to complain about. It is roused when negative things happen to you.
“The decision to make the present moment into your friend is the end of the ego.” Eckhart Tolle
Now as you know we are born to feel many negative emotions, and have been taught to feel that the world is unjust in many ways which the ego loves and builds upon. The problem with this is the more we complain and become upset with people and situations in our life the more those same people and situations build, because the Law of Attraction only knows how to reflect back to you and you always get what you are thinking about.
So if you think, “I don’t deserve what he/she just did to me, that was so unfair. She/he really gets on my nerves. Why do I have to always put up with her/him?” you will see this same situations with these people repeat constantly, and the ego loves it. You may not realize it but the ego becomes stimulated by it.

I find myself sometimes wanting to join in and agree with the person that says something negative about someone else. I have to really stay on guard to this hidden virus that is saying, “Go on, it’s okay to give your comment.” It is so easy to join in. However, now I understand that if I join in (even though it may stimulate me) I will, without a doubt, invite those negative situations into my life. I have to be quite strong to defeat my ego, but the rewards from a loving universe is so worth it.
Take your thoughts off of auto pilot.
Howbeit, you must remember that at first it is very difficult to do because the ego has been in control of your thoughts for so long. But I promise that once you are awake to the ego and take your control back you will take the ego off of auto pilot and then you will see great changes take place in your life. Negative thoughts will not be dominant, therefore, negative situations and people will drop off because the Law of Attraction cannot give to you what you’re not putting out.
“Rather than being your thoughts and emotions, be the awareness behind them.” Eckart Tolle
Be aware of the ego and how it pushes its way into your life constantly. This is the hidden entity that makes you say, “Why did I say that? What was I thinking?” Take your control back, and make your life a life of happiness, a life that you want to experience, and say farewell to the ego.
